Playhouse was established in 1985 by a group of mothers who wanted an alternative to crèche care. Playhouse continues to provide short-session child care. Over the years it has become a much needed community service, providing a wonderful environment outside the home for children to interact with others of a similar age, and for parents to take a break and  meet other parents.

Aims and Objectives

The main aim of Southport Playhouse is to provide a fun, safe and stimulating environment for children whose parents wish to leave them for short periods of time each week.

The objectives of Playhouse are to provide:

  • A safe, secure and caring environment, respecting the needs and interests of each child
  • A stimulating and interactive program, encouraging the learning of a variety of skills
  • An environment that promotes and develops positive behavioural attitudes and self-esteem.

“My daughter loves coming to the Playhouse to see her friends, paint, sing, dance and foster her love of learning. It also allows me to volunteer at the local kindergarten.”

“Southport Playhouse has been invaluable in providing my boys with a safe, caring and stimulating place to go whilst I get ‘jobs’ done.”

Regulations

Playhouse is registered as a Restricted Services Occasional Child Care Centre and is required to abide by regulations set out by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. It is reviewed by the Department at regular intervals to ensure that it is running in accordance with the standards set out in the Children’s Services Regulations 1998. A hard copy of the Children’s Services Regulations 1998 is available at Playhouse, or online here.

Refund Policy

Playhouse sessions are booked on a per-term basis and paid in full before the start of each term. Our little centre is always bustling –  if a family withdraws once term has commenced, then they forfeit their fees.  As Playhouse is a not-for-profit organisation, this “No Refund” policy must be adhered to in all circumstances.

Staff

Playhouse employs one permanent qualified early childhood educator, called the Director, and two additional qualified educators. Each staff member at Playhouse aims to build reciprocal, respectful and responsive partnerships with children, families and the wider community to maximise the learning potential of each child. To ensure these core values are upheld, at least one member of our dedicated staff will always be present at your child’s sessions: we believe that continuity of staff plays a fundamental role in a child’s ability to adjust to and thrive in an environment away from home. Our Director – a former Playhouse mum and committee member – has been with us for 17 years and counting!

Number of Children

Playhouse is registered to accommodate a maximum of 10 children for short-session care.
